What is Project Perch?

Project Perch is creating a real-life “hoot” in Broward County.
Kelly Heffernan, an avian biologist, started Project Perch with the South Florida Audubon Society in 2008.

Our Mission

Project Perch’s mission is to protect and nurture the Florida burrowing owls. Project Perch provides protection by finding and educating “caretakers” for as many owls as possible, and promotes the population by working with landowners to provide artificial burrows. You can support our program by making a donation.

Hello, hello!!!

I’m Owl Man Paul with Project Perch

Our not-for-profit group of volunteers is dedicated to the conservation of the Threatened Florida burrowing owl. Every day, we observe, protect, and nurture this tiny, loveable raptor.

We observe by recruiting “Owl Guardians” to watch over the owls. Known locations are monitored and we are always on the lookout for new burrows.

PROJECT PERCH EDUCATIONAL

More than 40 Broward County schools have participated in educating children and youth about ways to care for, protect, and count the owls.

BURROWING OWL STORE

You’ll find unique merchandise with the burrowing owl’s watercolor art of Claudia Hafner on t-shirts, sweatshirts, journals, calendars, and more.

LIVE BURROWING OWL CAMERA

COMING SOON! The LIVE Burrowing Owl Cam provides a 24-7 glimpse into the life of a Burrowing Owl family in Broward County.
